MESSAGE OF THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS
It is with great honor and a profound sense of responsibility that I assume the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) of Uganda. I acknowledge and appreciate the hand of God in my appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions of Uganda. I thank H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, President of the Republic of Uganda, for the appointment and the trust placed in me. I am deeply committed to advancing justice, integrity, accountability, and transparency within our prosecutorial system.
Our primary mandate is to ensure that justice, especially criminal justice, is administered fairly, efficiently, and impartially. It is our duty to uphold the rule of law for all Ugandans. I acknowledge the significant achievements of all my predecessors in realizing this mandate and will build upon that. We will dedicate ourselves to operational excellence, transparency, and the protection of the rights of victims, witnesses, and accused persons alike. We will strive to strengthen our criminal justice processes, improve access to justice, and maintain the highest standards of professionalism in all our endeavors.
In collaboration with the Police, the Judiciary, the community, and other stakeholders, we will strengthen our criminal justice frameworks and efficiently and effectively combat crime with the vision of a crime free society. Our goal is to build a robust prosecution service that is fair, effective, and accountable, and that promotes public confidence and contributes significantly to national development.
In light of the current challenges and opportunities for the office, we shall focus our interventions on bolstering the fight against corruption, Gender-Based Violence, terrorism, homicides and land crimes; strengthening witness protection and asset recovery; human resource recruitment, expansion of the ODPP footprint across the country, establishment of the Prosecutors’ Academy, adoption and deepening of technology solutions in case management and integrating with stakeholders in the Justice Law and Order Sector, and strengthening community engagement among others.
I look forward to working with all partners to uphold the principles of justice, uphold human rights, and foster a safer and more equitable society.
